Art Attack!

I love how I'm writing this blog when I should really be working on my school papers given that I only have a few weeks left before the semester ends. Ah, the beauty of procrastination, gotta love it!
So I'm going to follow through with what I said in my previous blog, I promised I would show you the marvelous workings of a contemporary artist. His name? Nathan DeYoung.
I don't know, there's just something about his art that speaks to me, it's very evocative, the use of colour (I'm a colour fiend!), the smooth, loose yet conscious brush strokes, the washes and intentional running of paint. Very impressionist. But it's also the way he integrates images of women's faces for his subject matter that fascinates me, he really captures feminine beauty, elegance and grace quite successfully. I like that they don't look like magazine cut-outs collaged onto the canvas, be blends the faces into the work really well. In some works, he paints only a section of a woman's face which is neat, it adds an air of mystery and seduction. Although he may get criticism for glamorizing these women, I deprecate that because I think it suits his style! I thought it was oil he used but it's in fact acrylic, acrylic on wood. Personally, I prefer the quality that acrylic on wood produces. Love it! All in all he's a genius in my book, I'm so captivated by his work it drives me crazy. Other opinions?
Cheers,
an artsy fartsy freak.

Chocolate To My Peanut Butter

So originally I was going to share an artist that I recently discovered and whose work I was very awestruck by but that will just have to be postponed due to a sudden burst of giddy emotions as a result of reading something inspiring from a very special someone in my life :-) You know who you are! So as an expression of my gratitude and love, I will dedicate this very amazing song to you. I just want to you to know that you my dear are freakin amazing and I wouldn't trade you for a thousand suns. Hope you like it!
